橫逆之來，正以驗徵平日涵養，若氣不可制，與不讀書人何異？
遇横逆之來而不怒，遭變故之起而不驚，當非常之謗而不辯。遇到不順心的事，不發怒、不埋怨是一種修為 ; 遭遇突如其來的變故，不驚慌失措是一種氣度 ; 受到他人無理的指責或誹謗，不爭辯或反駁是一種胸懷。人與人的絕對差距，絕非財富、地位、資源，而是「心性」。面對困境與變故時，能以心性智慧應對得當，則涵養增益，若相反時，請以此為鑒，以缺為正，補偏救弊。
